Choosing A Truck
Things to consider for your rig:
How many people will need to ride in the truck?
Anything over 3 will require cab modification or a crew cab. Modified cabs can be made to seat up to 15 people if needed.
How tall will the drivers of the truck be?
Any person wanting air ride seats or over 6' 4" tall may require cab modification or cab height raise. Cab can be raised up to 16" if wanted. 8" raise is typical. Any person weighing over 250 lbs may need more space in the driver's seat than the stock cab will allow.
What is the top speed desired?
Truck top speed will be around 60 mph with standard tires, and 68-72 mph with the taller super single tires. Higher speeds are not recommended, but can be achieved if more rpm range is needed. Additional engine Hp can be increased if wanted as well.
How much fuel capacity is needed?
The trucks differ in fuel tank sizes from 78 gal, to twin 55 gal. Trucks average around 8.6 mpg empty. Additional tanks can be added for longer range without refueling
What will the truck's overall use be for?
Outfitting these trucks for their special uses and proper care and mechanical servicing are critical for its ultimate end use and user satisfaction. Please be straightforward with your ultimate goal. If it's for disaster preparedness, or a bug out or disaster response situation, you can be at ease soldier, We won't think you are crazy if you ask if it has any microchips processor electronics in it. We will be happy to discuss EMP with you, and even up-armoring in case you need to protect against a firefight, but tell us whatever your needs may be, so we can accomplish what you desire. No cloaking or closet prepping. Details are vital for a good build.
You will have many options to put on this kind of a truck. If you don't know what you want yet, although we are not claiming we are experts in any given field, we have plenty of suggestions for you based on experience from past requests, past mistakes and sins, and future dreams and wants
NOTE: All outfitting is for offroad use only. (In other words, we claim no crash test results, no safety tests of any kind. Vehicles are originally built to be used on public highways, but we make no claim to any modifications being safe for highway travel, and are built for offroad use only.)
We ask that above all, that you keep in mind that we are building people potential survival/rescue trucks for a really nasty dark day. We do not ever wish to offend, but if you want a truck with video game consoles, a wine cooler, and 65" plasma tv's, you may be on a long waiting list as our priority is setting up good people who wish to take care of their families and neighbors with the equipment to accomplish that. Mario will have to wait to save that princess. Deal with it.
Here are a few complete truck options below that can be turn-key ready, or adjusted and modified further to fit your needs for those members who would also be willing to volunteer as their local DRT (Disaster Response Team).
